Dressed up Camcorders

I’m taking a wild guess that these camcorders are not for the average CrunchGear reader. Right? But maybe our reader’s wifes/gfs/moms would appreciate them more. The DXG Luxe Collection is basically your average DXG HD camcorder styled after some designer handbag. I mean, they aren’t bad cameras as they can record up to 8 hours of 720p video on a 16GB card, and snap 8 MP photos. Plus, these models will only cost $149 when they come out in early August. Maybe it’s just that we don’t appreciate the designer digs as most of us think our camcorder’s silver casing looks classy enough.

Refine your Blinking Habit

When I first saw the Wink Glasses, I thought they were those joke/novelty glasses that have those weird pictures that change if you tilt them. Yeah, I probably should know the proper name for this technology, but I don’t. I’m also not doing a good job at describing it, but remember those cheap plastic glasses that make you look like you’re winking or blinking?

No, the Wink Glasses are no joke, as they are designed for those who taking gaming too seriously. Did you ever hear of those stories about how video games reduce the player’s blinking ratio, and how it can lead to long-term damage over time?

Well, the Wink Glasses are designed to detect whether the user is blinking and then fogs up the glasses if the user doesn’t blink at the normal five-second mark. I suppose this encourages you to blink, even if it spoils your game.

I’m not certain how long it takes to charge this particular wireless device, but it can apparently hold an eight-hour charge. Of course, if there is an outlet or USB port nearby, the Wink Glasses can always be attached there for power.

If you are interested in the Wink Glasses, then you might have to be in Japan to get them. They won’t hit the market on August 10th for a price of $150.

Gloves transforms you into Spider-man

Sure, we all wish that we could climb walls like Tobey Maguire in Spider-man, but Jem Stansfield actually did it. Jem didn’t have little razor things come out of his hands, either, but used vacuum gloves.

As you can see from the attached video (after the jump), Jem’s vacuum gloves really sucked. That is, he was able to attach them to a sheer surface. The particular building that he was climbing was smooth enough to allow him to work.

Of course, you may notice the high amount of safety lifelines around him. The man has more wires on him than a marionette. I certainly don’t think that Mr. Stansfield was being over-cautious. He’s got quite a get-up on, and I don’t really want to see him fall.

Too bad he didn’t have any vacuum boots for his feet. I’m guessing he had to use all of his arm-strength to accomplish this climb, and I am sure that was quite difficult.

This demonstration of the vacuum gloves was performed for a new BBC science show called Bang Goes the Theory. I suppose that Mr. Stansfield was attempting to show that man could climb walls like a spider after all.

Perhaps someone could make a smaller version of these vacuum gloves, and then mass-market them. If so, be prepared for a whole new definition of traffic as New York City becomes filled with many spider-men who literally climb walls to get to work.

Very First Lighter Phone

Although I fully admit to chuckling quite a bit after first seeing this cellphone with a built-in cigarette lighter, I can see some practicality with it. After all, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard of my smoking friends losing their lighter. I’ve been asked numerous times if I happen to have a lighter on me, despite that they’re fully aware I don’t smoke. Having a lighter built into your cellphone would come in incredibly handy. After all, your phone is almost always somewhere within reach.

I know, smoking is a nasty habit, but smokers catch enough grief as it is. It only seems fair that they get the occasional high tech item to make their lives easier. The phone comes in a few different colors, like red, brown, black and a silver/gold combination. The phone has a dual SIM card, a 1.3MP camera, an FM Radio, Bluetooth and can play MP3/MP4. You can check it out on Seabright.

Ript Fusion's Undershirt

The other day, I happen to notice that the sides of my body are getting flabby. You might not be able to tell when I am wearing a shirt, but these side fat folds are clearly visible if I’m in my bathing suit.

Fortunately, technology is here to help me. The Ript Fusion undershirt has material made of polyester and spandex blend that can somehow compress my flab into some nicely sculpted abs.

The rest of the shirt is made of cotton, and I am not certain how well this works. I believe that most health experts will say that no technology of any kind is a substitute for diet and exercise.

Yeah, I have my doubts whether this thing will work. Maybe the truth is that the Ript isn’t supposed to make you into the physique of Charles Atlas, but just make you look that way. It does look like the undershirt that Bruce Willis wore in the first Die Hard movie. Actually, I think he wore a tank top, and I can’t remember if he had a good physique in that movie.

Well, if you are willing to try something a little different, then you should be able to purchase it at Ript Fusion from their website in two styles: the Men’s Crew Neck and Men’s V-Neck.

Spy Video Sunglasses

Forget about sunglasses that feature MP3 playback - those aren’t nearly as cool as the Spycam Video Sunglasses from ThinkGeek, filling up a hole in your voyeuristic instinct.

The Spycam Video Sunglasses are not intended to be part of any disguise - they are the disguise - concealing a tiny video camera in the center of the glasses. Capable of capturing excellent quality video and audio, these Spycam Video Sunglasses can be comfortably worn nearly anywhere to help you get the footage. Video is stored in AVI format on a Micro SD card. These glasses also feature easy-to-use controls which are located on the glasses frame. The built-in battery is rechargeable via USB connection and has a battery operating life of about 3-4 hours.

Would you drop $149.99 for this, or do you prefer other kinds of spy gadgets

Solar Travel Bag

While you’re out traveling, especially if it’s in the great outdoors, your gadgets don’t always get the charge they really need. Which makes having a solar panel around extremely helpful. Well with this, not only would you have a way to charge your gadgets, but something to store them in as well. Be it while you’re out camping or just going from work to home, this would make things a little more convenient and not to mention eco-friendly.

The solar panel has overcharge, discharge and short circuit protection, so it will last a bit longer. It will charge your typical cellphone in under 5 hours, that of course depends on the battery capacity though. It will also charge things such as your MP3 player, portable game consoles and various other small gadgets. The bag comes with a USB adaptor as well as 3 mobile phone adaptors for Nokia phones, Samsung and Sony-Ericsson. As far as solar bags go this isn’t actually priced too badly. You can purchase it for £14.99 or about $25 from Maplin.

A Gun which shoots Nike T-Shirts

This next device may or may not be real, but it really should be. Some of you may have been at sporting events that had people shoot T-shirts into the crowd, but how would you like to be the one doing the shooting?

I suppose this is the appeal of the “limited edition” T-shirt shooting gun that shoots nothing but “authentic Nike shirts”. It is even engraved with a signature by an authentic Nike Athlete. Do these Nike guys know how to party, or what?

If you want to see it in action, feel free to view the video of the Nike 6.0 Shredders with Steven Jackson after the jump. Yes, it does look fun to have a T-shirt fight.

Not to be a spoiler, but am I really supposed to believe that you can fire a shirt and make the victim wear the shirt? That’s cartoon physics happening here, really. By the way, did you see the smoke coming from these guns? What exactly is creating the firepower here?

Assuming these T-shirt guns are real, I have heard that the price is about $1,500. I think I am going to pass on this one, unless they make a model that doesn’t shoot authentic Nike Shirts. Why should I pay top dollar to shoot high-priced clothes, when all I want to do is shoot ordinary laundry?

QR Belt Buckle

I wrote in late May about QR code belt buckles. Well, it finally arrived. That’s it right there, in all its glory. “What does it say?” you wonder? I admit I was entirely unoriginal, and made a QR belt buckle that encodes the URL of my personal website. I’m a dork!

And here’s the fancy new QR code buckle next to a genuine Texas belt buckle that was recently given to me:

And if that’s not enough, here’s a video that’s sure to impress! Stephen, the CTO of Fluid Forms, creators of the QR code fashion accessory line, brands himself using the company laser. I bet the Christmas parties at this place are crazy!

Top 10 Fashion Gadgets

#10 – As a lethal beauty, Agent 99 couldn’t resist Chanel’s weapon-wear for the runway. It’s fashion and function in one…IF you’re a spy.

#9 – Skooba’s Skreener Bag wouldn’t fool modern-day X-ray machines, but looks like it might. Fashion is all about appearances.

#8 – Dr. Jenny Tillotson constructed this scent dress to mimic the body’s circulation system. An interactive fabric emits a selection of scents depending on your mood to create a personal “smell bubble.” Probably not the most stealth of outfits.

#7 – All you need is love. Literally. The “Embrace Me” hoodie’s logo pattern, made of a silver conductive fabric, is powered when two people embrace: it lights up while giving off a faint heartbeat sound.

#6 – Cleopatra’s iconic gold arm band goes digital with the Nike+ SportBand. Runners can monitor distance, pace, time and calories burned and then plug into their laptop to download the data.

#5 – Charge your iPod Shuffle while you bask on the beach. NYU student Andrew Schneider’s solar bikinis are handmade and specifically designed to fit and flatter your body. A male version, with enough voltage to keep a six pack of beer cool (the original inspiration for the project) is in the works.

#4 – A tiny sensor strapped into the laces of the running shoes in the Nike+ Capable series makes it possible listen to real-time Nike audio feedback wirelessly through to the receiver.
#3 – Keep your data close to your heart and covered in bling with Swarovski’s clever charm with a hidden jump drive for stealing files (or just downloading party pics off friends’ laptops, for us NON-spys).

#2 – Ideal for slope-side sleuth work. Burton’s Audex ski jacket is fitted with enough gear to fuel a private dj station. Bluetooth technology and a control panel with caller ID are hidden in the sleeve, and speakers and a microphone are concealed in the hood.

#1 – Proof that the future is finally here: fashion and comfort have merged. These Mary Janes are just one of several collapsible heels that have hit the market. Go from stilettos to kitten heels in a few clicks.

GPS underwear keeps tabs on wearer

I don’t know about you, but it is without a doubt that more and more people are judged by their looks each day, no thanks to the media that keeps on bombarding us with messages that a normal guy looks like those Hollywood heartthrobs, while the average female is supposed to get out of bed looking like a supermodel. Inner beauty doesn’t count for much these days, although a lady will still feel more confident if she wears something sexy under her clothes. This underwear set certainly boosts the confidence of the person wearing it, in addition to the fact that it has GPS support so that your position (as long as you’re wearing it) can be established at all times just in case you get abducted or worse. I think most (suspicious) husbands will probably get this for their wives with less than altruistic reasons behind the gift.

Upload your photos on the Buckle or the Bracelet

I think all of you seen those cowboy guys with their belt buckles as huge as their hands, so it stands to reason that someone should put a picture on a belt buckle.

A company called Kimbra Studios has figured out a way to do this with some new technology that they were showing off at the PhotoPlus Expo in New York. All a user needs to do is go to the Web Site and select the belt buckle option.

By the way, you can also request other pieces of jewelry such as a bracelet for your photos. The company website allows you to upload the photos, and you should receive your photogenic buckle or other piece of jewelry at your door within two to three weeks.

So it sounds like you will have yet another way to proudly display your photos. I have to admit that I like this technology, but the picture that you see here looks a tad touched up. In fact, what interested me in this product was it looked like this person has an iPhone on their waist. I could easily make an inappropriate joke such as “is that an iPhone on your waist, or…” I won’t make that joke, of course.

If you want in on this tech, the prices vary. The lowest priced item is a mobile phone charm at $14, but the bracelet will set you back $260.
