JetLev-Flyer Water Jet Pack Facts

With summer here, watersports are always the rage to add some fun, action packed adventure to your holidays. Now, if you’re a water junkie and want something a little bit different to your normal water activities then brace yourselves as I introduce to you the JetLev- Fly Water Jet Pack.

If you’re thinking that this is just another fancy word for a jet ski then think again! This invention by Designer Ramke can reach an altitude of 10 metres, a top speed of 30mph, and travel almost 200 miles before it need to be refuelled. Not bad hey?

Unlike other jet packs we’ve seen on the market, the difference between this one is that it runs on water…so how does it all work? Well, a 4-stroke engine mounted on a float is used to pass water through a 10 m (33 ft) long flexible hose and into the jet pack. There, two powerful jets of water are sent out and the user is propelled into the air, moving at a speed of up to 30 mph.

The JetLev-Flyer Water Jet Pack took nine years to develop, which included years of rigorous testing before the product was ready for production, so it is no wonder that it is retailing at around £160,000. Even though this water adrenalin gadget might hold a very hefty price tag, I can only begin to imagine the 200 miles and 30 mph of full throttle flying water fun I could have with this water gadget!

Electronic Wrist watch Tattoo

I don’t know if this next product is some sort of joke, but it feels like a sick one. If the photo to the left here was a video, you might see what I am talking about.

What you see in the picture is not some guy with a stamp of “01:35” on his wrist, but those numbers change as time goes by.

Yes, this is a wristwatch that is somehow implanted onto your wrist. It uses the natural kinetic energy for power, and it uses a wireless signal to sync up to an external clock to make certain your wrist is always on time.

So this an electric tattoo of a watch that is always there, no matter what. It is even planned to have the numbers glow when you hold your wrist up to view the time. I can’t help but wonder if this guy has the month and day on his left wrist.

Okay, I personally think that a device like this is some kind of unnatural relationship between technology and humanity. I mean, we’re not far off from Borg technology with something like this. It reminds me of a weird tattoo that Russell Crowe received in A Beautiful Mind.

However, I will let you, the readers, decide that. Leave a comment if you think this is an aberration of nature or just another advancement in technology.

Worlds First USB Powered Chainsaw

Behold the world’s first USB-powered chainsaw. Available now for pre-order from USBChainsaw.com, the i.Saw is the size of a standard computer keyboard and features “zero startup time” while “Patent-pending technology allows for an unparalleled distribution of power.”

The above video shows the chainsaw in action, although you may notice that all of the actual cutting is handled by a quick closeup of chainsaw teeth. Fake? Probably. If it’s not fake, though, it’s a brilliant feat of engineering.

Most signs — no way to actually lay money down for a pre-order, overambitious use of jargon, shady promo video — point to fake, unfortunately. Our resident handyman, Matt Burns, will be disappointed.

The Self Portrait Machine is a gadget that forces you to draw yourself. The unit has a camera which captures a picture of yourself and when ready to proceed you put your hand in to some straps, grab a pen and you are then forced to draw a picture of the photo just taken.

I found some the relationship between human and machine are amazing and could be horrible (like this one that shows how we human invent machines then put human inside to it to manufacture goods), The final object - A machine is a miniature of what I understand through the process of research, and the aim of the machine is to let people have a chance to feel the condensed process of how we generate our self identity from external point of view as from the society, which is a big machine we all in.

Clock That’s Powered by the Bugs It Kills

Feed me Seymour!! The Carnivorous Clock is a killer clock design from UK-based designers James Auger and Jimmy Loizeau. Literally. This clock actually kills bugs. There is sticky flypaper area which traps flies and other bugs and the clock is powered by fuel cells that run on the bacteria digested remains of the bugs it kills. The bug juice runs an LED clock. These intrepid designers also have other prototypes for objects that run on other types of animals like rodents. The whole thing is a concept we’ve all pondered but it’s a concept we probably won’t ever see. Bugs! Don’t feed it. Bugs! Don’t need it. Overrated!

Drive you cat crazy with lasers

Most have pulled out a laser pointer and have seen their cat be driven literally up the walls. So you probably know what kind of endless fun that can be had with one around. Well Bolt is an official toy just for cats that takes that fun and makes it possible for you to put even less effort into it. Instead of having to wave around your arm, you can set it to automatic mode and just sit back and enjoy the mayhem.

Bolt can be set down on the table, floor or you can hold it in your hand. When it’s in automatic mode, it’ll run for 15 minutes and then automatically shut off. You can also set it to manual mode and control the laser yourself. Something about the bright white look on the white background makes this look like some design that will never make it to actual product mode. However, thankfully, it is an actual product that you can purchase and even at an affordable price. It can be purchased online for only $19.95.

Crazy Flash Drives

It would appear that Rocky III flash drives use the same technology as the Humping USB Dog that was circulating around gadget blogs a few years ago. Yeah, how else can you make Rocky, Apollo, and Clubber do sit ups? Too bad you can’t wipe that goofy smile off Apollo’s face.

Personally, I think that Rocky III was the best of the Rocky sexology (that’s a group of six films, not some sexual thing). That was the one where Rocky, who is essentially resting on his laurels, has to face his greatest foe, Clubber Lang (Mr. T). Rocky has to dig deep down inside to find his personal “Eye of the Tiger”, and he is trained by Apollo Creed, his opponent from the first two movies.

Well, if you are a huge diehard Rocky fan, then you should probably lay down about $30 each for these guys.

Plant-Like Midori AC Adapter

With the amount of gadgets and gizmos in our everyday life, it sometimes seems like our homes are being completely overtaken by cords and plugs and adapters. Everything needs to charge up or connect to something else, it’s a jungle of power cord vines out there. But AC adapters don’t have to be just plain black, white, or gray anymore. There’s no reason why they can’t be jazzed up a bit.

This AC adapter, entitled “Midori” and created by Shunsuke Umiyama from the Japanese design studio MicroWorks, makes your cord look all pretty- like a tangled vine of ivy. It’s like having an ornamental houseplant instead of an industrial looking cord. It’s “green power”- not really.

Color Changing Watch

Here’s an interesting watch from Projects- the Iridium Color Changing watch. Astute viewers of this site will notice that the watch has no hands! So how does it tell time? It’s an unsolved mystery we’ll never know. Or with colors. The hours are represented by the color blue and the minutes are shown in red. The two colors travel around the clock changing the numbers to the appropriate shade. When the minute hand and hour hand are due to cross, the numbers turn purple. Neat handless design. This unusual watch costs $119.

Smoke in a Can

Looking for a little disco in a can? No that’s not something some crazy dude walking around following a giant Viking at a rave just offered you in the bathroom, it’s smoke. Smoke in a can. No need for those bulky fog machines that need special fog juice and electricity and a cart to wheel them around. If you just need a quick little smokescreen, perhaps for comedic effect, then smoke in a can is for you. Great for use with lasers and lighting effects and for magicians. Sure, it’s a bit pricey at $8 a can for 5 minutes of smoke but what’s your other option? Burning something? Ok, I guess that actually would work for free. But this stuff won’t set off your smoke detectors. Bonus.

Potato chips are one of the greatest snack foods ever. I love potato chips. Who doesn’t? Your waistline, that’s who. To make that crispy salty potato goodness, you need to fry up sliced potatoes in unhealthy oil. Not anymore! Sofa with Pool Table

What a great idea. This is a sofa which as a pool table built into it hideabed style. Okay, actually, it’s a snooker table, but still. What an ideal addition to an apartment/mancave. According to Craziest Gadgets the couch is about 6 foot long and apparently, it’s quite popular in the UK where they’re fairly cheap.

Made as a joint venture from Pierce Upholsterers and Accrington and Riley - makers of fine British pool tables, and was produced in the 70’s. It’s made of a neutral brown dralon fabric and when opens it flips into a pool table with adjustable leveling feet to make it level. What a fantastic idea which was decades ahead of it’s time. It probably didn’t do too well because manufacturing it would’ve been costly without a computer/motion controlled assembly line. But with the advent of not only computers for design and manufacture, this piece could easily make a resurgence. And why stop there? Imagine a sofa with built in ping pong table, air hockey table, poker table!

As I said, this bad boy has “man cave” written all over it. Currently for bid at eBay.UK at about $200 US but it’s sure to go well north of that.

Metal Detecting Sandals

Alright so you won’t be setting any kind of fashion statement with these, but the full sized metal detector that is typically seen, isn’t exactly classy either. So it’s safe to say that most that use a metal detector aren’t entirely concerned with how they look. Plus this way you don’t have to really carry anything, just wear a goofy pair of sandals and you’re set. Plus if you’re wearing pants, no one will even see the strange black box attached to your leg.

On the right sandal is a copper coil built into it, that is powered by the awkward looking battery pack that wraps around your leg. When you come within 2′ of a metal object it alerts you in one of two ways. It flashes a light and then you can either set it to gently vibrate or give a much louder buzzing noise. To keep the pack up and going, it requires a 9V battery, which is of course not included. That battery will get you up to six hours of use while you’re out wandering the beach. They offer both men’s and women’s sizes. You can purchase them for $59.95 from Hammacher and Schlemmer.

Just in time for summer, it’s a post about ski goggles!! Take a gander at these ridiculous looking headphones and matching ski goggles from Skull Candy. I guess if you’re the type of person who likes to match their ski goggles to their headphones, then maybe the style is for you. To me it looks like 1987 drove up in a Delorean, said “totally gnarly, dude” and then barfed dayglow all over it.
